This blogs is concerned about the website seen above.
The contents of the site include a network of people across the globe who share a common interest in surfing. What makes this site new and original is the fact that once you have become a member of the network you can contact other members. Why would you want to do this?... well when you decide to take that surfing trip you have always been dreaming of, you won't have to lug your board with you and risk the chance of damage to your board.

The site works by exchanging information with a boarder on the site's network that lives in the destination you plan on visiting. Once you contact that person you know that once you get there you will have a board to ride as well as a potential local tour guide. This site is bound to be successful and help boarders interact globally. Please visit the site for more information.

  1. This is an interesting idea for travelers who want to surf at their travel destination but dont want to travel with their own boards. However I find it hard to believe that all these people across the globe would be willing to lend their boards to complete strangers. What happes if the rentee accidentally breaks the renters board?

  2. This is a valid concern for new users and we have looked into this. When the agreement is made between the two boarders a sample contract can be filled out on the site or printed and handwritten. In addition, users can make their own contracts up as long as both parties agrees to the terms of use. I believe this won't be an issue, although if any damage should occur the contract will cover the damages and the lender will not be left out to dry.

  3. The SurfboardTimeshare web site is a brand new surfer's network. It only went live at the end of October 2008, and is in its infancy right now, amid much excitement. There are promotions, (i.e. - discounted memberships) available in many parts of the world while the network is being developed. If you would like to learn if a discounted membership is available in your area, write to support@surfboardtimehsare.com.

  4. I think this is a great idea. Considering airline companies don't take quality care of the items you travel with. You have to pay for insurance to cover any damage that may occur during the flight or during the loading and off loading process. Once you pay for the insurance your board is still at risk of being damaged or broken and if it is in fact damaged or worse broken the insurance you paid for doesn't give you a board to surf while your on vacation. Now you don't have a surfboard and you'll have to go and rent one anyway.
Even if you do decide to travel with your board this website gives you the opportunity to meet up with surfers around the world. You can also meet up with a local who will hopefully be friendly enough to show you around some local breaks and point out any hazards as well.
I have traveled with my board and will never do it again. A global surfing community would allow surfers to meet other surfers and experience a new break, possibly on a new board.

Check out this movie: Singlefin Yellow. A California surfer makes a board and then sends it to one of his friends half way across the globe with the purpose of letting him experience a new board. After he's done riding it, he sends it off to one of his friends and so on.
